National DO NOT CALL for cell phones

This was sent to us from one of our clients:

REMINDER....5 days from today (October 5, 2007), all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:1-888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time and it blocks your number for five (5) years.. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

I did it for my phone yesterday, and it is easy to do.

This is a scam e-mail that has been circulating for several years (though the "deadline" changes). See: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp

I hope we're not going to start seeing Nigerian 419 scams posted here soon...

We hate being the perpetuator of mis-information. I wondered after I received 2 of these in my inbox if it weren't a false report.

Snopes is a GREAT source to debunk any e-mail notices that you might think are questionable. Thanks to our reader for pointing out this error.
