Etiquette for taking photos at open houses

A reader asks:

Is it okay if I take my own personal digital photos while I am looking inside properties for sale?

Our reply:

It is always advisable to ask permission from whoever is hosting an Open House or private showing if you may take photographs. Sometimes the people involved in selling (sometimes the owners or renters) may not want certain artwork or personal items photographed. Most of the time there are often photographs available on the MLS or the Realtor's website for you to view and print out.
